Local Environment
The local environment is very important to many people in the Beechcliffe area. It covers so many issues it is hard to define which are the most important to the area as a whole.
Whether it's people dropping litter, people not picking up dog mess or the state of some residents' properties. The Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 gives local authorities more power to deal with these issues. More information on the Act can be found on the Defra website.
Did you know it's an offence to drop litter?
Well it is! Local authority wardens have the power to issue fixed penalty notices to anyone caught littering. 'Litter' includes chewing gum and cigarette butts too - not just empty crisp packets and cans. If an offender fails to pay the fine they may be prosecuted. The Police and private individuals can also bring prosecutions against 'Litter Louts', so let's act now!
Make sure you 'Clean it up'!Don't let your best friend spoil our streets - clean up after your dog. Not doing so can lead to a £1000 fine.
Dog mess is a real nuisance and apart from being an unpleasant sight it can be a health hazard. Dog mess can make people very ill, especially children who play in the area and reguarly fall over. Toxocariasis, which is caused by roundworms in dogs can be fatal.
What can we do?
We need to tackle these issues one by one. We need individuals with an interest in a particular area who can spearhead a project to resolve it. So If you are getting fed up with a local issue why not get in contact with us and see if we can help you to try and develop a solution to put and end to it.
